Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
